As per the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) “Closing A Medical Practice” policy, physicians must ensure that appropriate follow-up occurs for tests ordered by the physician where the test results are pending.

Therefore, the physician who ordered a test for a patient would be responsible for communicating the result in a timely manner (unless there was a relevant restriction on their license or they no longer had a certificate of registration).
